The Hermaphrodite: Peppermint Patty

Received as an email alert from an avid reader of this blog, an anonymous submitter has directed my attention towards an episode from the 'Peanuts 1970's Collection Vol. 1'. Within this volume, there's an episode titled, "There's no time for love, Charlie Brown" that features the character "Peppermint Patty". The anonymous submitter has shared that in 1973, Charles M. Schulz's introduced the character "Peppermint Patty" as a way to introduce hermaphrodites into society. Here are two pictures submitted from that episode:

  2. ^ That's true! I watched the entire episode and it was obvious. Peppermint Patty didn't like being called 'sir' and had a crush on Charlie Brown and it was snoopy who made her feel like a 'girl'. She wasn't dressed like the other female characters. Her hair was styled that way but she dressed and sound more like the male characters.

I knew she was born that way when she became upset when called 'sir' and even more so when she admitted that she was a girl.

Peppermint Patty was around long before 1973.

  4. That's true @ 10:45 AM. Her gender was at question in 1973 through the episode "There's no time for love Charlie Brown". At one point, she called herself "a girl" and became upset when her peers would call her "sir".

Based solely on this post, i went out to bestbuy to purchase Peanuts 1960's Collection and after watching "He's your dog Charlie Brown" where Peppermint Patty appeared in male clothing and then Pink Pajamas when she dog-sat Snoopy for Charlie Brown. It actually validated her gender as in-between.

  5. I've been browsing online greater than three hours lately, but I by no means found any interesting article like yours. It is pretty worth enough for me. Personally, if all web owners and bloggers made excellent content as you probably did, the net will likely be a lot more helpful than ever before.
