Update: The Eunuch

After protests from several quarters against the judgement of the Delhi High Court approving homosexuality, now the Eunuchs (Kinners) have lodged their strong resentment against the move.

"If a such thing happens then it will certainly affect our business and could even destroy our culture and tradition", said Puja Kinner, convenor of the Kinner Maha Sammelan which concluded here yesterday.

The 10-day-long national level conference of the eunuchs also passed a resolution urging the Central government not to succumb to any presssure of some NGOs who want abolition of Section 377 of the IPC and approving homosexuality in the country.

Puja said most of the eunuchs earn their livelihood through dancing and singing after a new child was born to a family. "If homosexuality is approved then how will be the child be born and how will we earn our livelihood", she questioned.

The Eunuch said approval of homosexuality would also lead to 'anarchy' in society and after abolishment of Section 377, rapists would go scot free.

Another Eunuch Achi said if the government goes on to approve homosexuality, then their society would be the most-affected and could even lead starvation.

Puja also said the conference also passed a resolution, encouraging people from their society to take part in politics.

"We have decided to contest Assembly and other elections in a big way throughout the country", she announced.

The conference was attended by Eunuchs from states like Rajasthan, West Bengal, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Orrisa and Uttar Pradesh.
