An ex-coach of Caster Semenya has confirm that she or he was born as a hermaphrodite. The South African, who won the women's 800m in Berlin, was told by the IAAF that she had to undergo testing to confirm his or her gender.
It's been reported that around 120 hermaphrodites are born in Germany each year and undergo a sex change operation to transformed their penis into a vagina or vice versa.
The unnamed coach told the Swiss tabloid ‘Blick’ that Semenya is not a woman.
According to this unnamed coach, a genetic test was conducted back in March to determine Caster's gender by officials within "South Africa".
The unnamed coach has stated that these results were clear and Semenya should've been banned from competing with the "women" at the World Championships in Berlin.
He also shared that during previous "testing" methods, additional medication was given to Caster that altered her or his testosterone levels.
Results from these test wasn't shared with Caster nor her family members.
To test Semenya's gender, Dr. Bowen-Simpkins said the IAAF test would involve her being examined by a gynecologist to see what her genitals look like. Semenya would also have an ultrasound to see if she has all the normal female reproductive organs.
ReplyDeleteDoctors would also need an hormonal test to see if she had an excess of testosterone and they would also test her chromosomes.
People who are intersex could also have the condition and not be aware of it, as was the case of Indian athlete Santhi Soundarajan, who failed a gender test at the 2006 Asian games and was stripped of her medal. She later attempted suicide, survived and recently announced she was becoming a coach.
Intersex conditions occur in one out of every 2,000 births in the United States, according to the Rohnert Park, California-based Intersex Society of North America.
For more than half a century it was common for doctors to carry out reversal operations, either through castration or constructing a new vagina, on babies whose genitals were seen as either too big or too small.
Many of these people later spoke out and said that these surgeries caused them trauma and confusion in adult life.
Most groups campaigning for intersex people now advocate that doctors should not perform medically unnecessary genital surgeries on intersex babies to make them male or female.

Intersexuals ARE NOT a result of incestuous relationships and that is an extremely offensive and damaging thing to say! Intersexed individuals can come from any kind of parents just like the rest of us. The difference is in the amount of testosterone they received as a fetus.
Normally, a male XY fetus gets testosterone which causes its gentials to grow into a penis and testicals, while a female XX fetus gets no testosterone, so its genitals stay labia, clitoris, and vagina. Intersexed fetuses occur when a XX fetus gets testosterone, or a XY fetus does not. This is NOT the result of anything the parents did, it just happens - the same way things like having twins just happens. I don't know why you put that at the top of the blog, but that is a very strange/ignorant thing to say!

GOAT semen from 50 years ago could help save a local breed.
The Golden Guernsey genetic material, which has been in storage since the 1960s, could be used to father a new generation of kids.
Guernsey goat numbers will also get a boost from their UK cousins. Local breeder Peter Girard has been granted the first licence to import goat sperm to help improve local animals.
He said this was an important step.
‘We are limited here and there is a danger of inbreeding with this rare breed.’
There are fewer than a dozen male Golden Guernseys in the island and under 100 females. But in the UK, there are more than 100 males, which could be used to help out.
‘It will give us a wider pool to choose from,’ said Mr Girard.
‘Also the semen remains viable for many years. Some of the semen from the original animals from the 1960s is still usable. Some of their lines are now extinct, so it would be great to bring them back.’
Mr Girard said Guernsey had had an ongoing problem with inbreeding animals and it was not uncommon for grandparents to breed with grandchildren.
This has led to health problems. ‘There are goats who are hermaphrodites [both sexes at once] or have defects with their udders or internally,’ he said.
Male goats have previously been imported but that can also lead to problems.
