The Hermaphrodite: Alexandra Svobodova or Martin Sloboda

In the rural town of Bechyne in the Czech Republic, a 30 year old hermaphrodite name Martin Sloboda was arrested early this week for illegally posing as a gynecologist, providing medical services and writing prescribtions to more than a dozen women. The Daily News reports that Martin has a long criminal past and if convicted, s/he faces up to five years in jail.

The Hermaphrodite: Jack or Jackie Green

Shortly after he hit puberty (age 16), Jack became the youngest to undergo a sex change operation in the UK. At age 18, Jack has transitioned into Jackie Green and will become a beauty pageant contestant for this year's Miss England competition -- the Sun reports.

"I could get a phalloplasty, which builds the phallus from a donor site on your body, but I'm leaning more toward a metoidioplasty...It's a procedure that uses what you already have down there, which has grown larger from the testosterone. You end up with a smaller phallus than with the phalloplasty, but it's fully functional, it gets erect, and the sensation is all there...the surgery I want to have, I'd like to have the testicular implants and all of that, and I'd like to be able to urinate through it...I mean, it's not that big a deal to sit down, but some of the toilet seats in men's rooms are disgusting. The doctor I want to use is in Belgrade. It's going to be a little cheaper there. Probably $25,000, maybe $45,000, I really don't know." -- The hermaphrodite Chaz Bono (Chastity Bono) tells a Rolling Stone profile that he's preparing to undergo penile reconstruction surgery after he obtains enough funds to the cover cost. Chaz also shares that he's willing to travel overseas to spend less on the surgical procedure.

A Dutch department store called "Hema" released images (On December 13th) of Australian supermodel Andrej Pejic marketing undergarments from their latest collection. Novelist: Xu Xi

Chinese-American novelist Xu Xi has a new book of short stories out and one of these stories were written about the life and hardtimes of a hermaphrodite. According to the ChinaDaily website, "In the story Lady Day, the protagonist's apparently aberrant sexuality is a "deformity" that sets off a chain of personal disasters - being disowned by family and abused by bullies in a British public school - but is turned into a weapon, a source of power, later in life. As a posh hermaphrodite prostitute who services business tycoons and Saudi princes in her plush apartment not too far away from Wall Street in New York, Lady Day lives life on her own terms, even as her high-profile clients take a tumble after a journalist runs an expose. She even gets her revenge on the high school bullies".

Update: Michalina Manios

Back in September, Michalina Manios revealed to judges on Poland's Next Top Model that she was born as a hermaphrodite. The aspiring model made it to the final three contestants and was recently voted off the show.

The Hermaphrodite Ryalu

According to online reports:

A man in India complaining of stomach pain had a hysterectomy after doctors discovered a full female reproductive system in his lower abdomen.

The farmer and father of two, identified only as Ryalu, was admitted to a hospital near Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, where doctors diagnosed him with a hernia, the Daily Telegraph reported.

When doctors proceeded with the routine operation, they discovered a female uterus, ovaries, Fallopian tubes, a cervix and vaginal tissue.

Dr Pramod Kumar Shrivastava, a surgeon at the Chhindwara district hospital, told the Daily Telegraph that Ryalu had external male organs and was healthy.

Although Ryalu is medically considered a hermaphrodite, his hormones and sexuality are male, Shrivastava said.

Ryalu, who was said to be as "stunned" as his doctors at the discovery, is recovering in the hospital and is being supported by his family.

According to GayNZ.com, TVOne aired a documentary featuring the hermaphrodite, "Mani Bruce Mitchell" last week. The documentary is titled, "Intersexion" and it has been difficult to locate online. While searching for this documentary, i managed to stumble upon another documentary featuring Mani Mitchell titled, "Not To Be Invisible" on youtube. At age 40, Mani Bruce Mitchell reveals what life was like growing up as a hermaphrodite:

A True Hermaphrodite Butterfly?

Reportedly, it's the new attraction in London at The Natural History Museum. Many media outlets are identifying this hermaphrodite as the "Great Mormon Butterfly". The left half is male and the right half is female with male and female reproductive organs merged right down the middle:

A stunning butterfly that emerged from its chrysalis as male on one side, female on the other, has astounded curators at the Natural History Museum in London.

The peculiar nature of the freshly hatched great mormon butterfly was spotted when staff noticed a striking difference between its wing colourings and other features.

The insect, which has a 10cm wingspan, is almost black on its male side, but the female side is much paler, with clearly visible flecks of blue, red and tortoiseshell.

A closer inspection revealed the insect to have one antenna longer than the other, a single male clasp on its abdomen, and male and female reproductive organs that had fused down the middle.

A Hermaphrodite Prisoner

At Chikurubi maximum security prison in Zimbabwe, officials are having a difficult time accommodating a hermaphrodite prisoner...who has both male and female reproductive organs. According to online reports, the prisoner killed his/her father for "failing to resolve their biological complications".

“Our officer in charge at the prison suspected that there were complications with our inmate when he was brought in from Mutimurefu and was given a single cell to live in,”...

“He/she is on remand, therefore, once convicted, our medical department, in compliance with other stakeholders, will assist the inmate.”

The prisoner who is said to have the features of a man a woman is said to be insisting that they were male.

"Tell Lady GaGa she can quit her job at the post office/ She's still a male lady/ Wouldn't f**k her with her d**k/ You heard it/ The verdict's in." ---Rapper Eminem implies that singer Lady GaGa was born with a penis on his upcoming EP with Royce Da 5' 9" titled 'A Kiss'....

Update: Chaz Bono

On "The Oprah Winfrey Show" today, Cher's daughter Chaz Bono is planning to discuss his new book "Transition: The Story of How I Became A Man" and his documentary, "Becoming Chaz". Both stories will detail his transition from female Chastity to male Chaz. According to reports, the documentary is scheduled to premiere tomorrow night on Oprah’s OWN network.

The Hermaphrodite: Sirilada Kotpipat

“I have testicles and a clitoris but I don’t have a penis or a vagina..” Quoting: Sirilada Kotpipat

As the quote states, Sirilada admits that she was born with testicles and a clitoris. However, doctors identified her as a male at birth. After three failed surgeries to correct her ambiguous sexual organs, the hermaphrodite Sirilada is determine to live life as a female despite the failed surgeries and the gender status that reads "male" on her birth certificate:

According to the surgeon, there were two major issues associated with Sirilada’s surgery. The first was her small vagina. The second was that the integrity of her skin had lost its elasticity caused by previous operations. Nonetheless, Sirilada underwent her third operation as scheduled. The surgery has left her with a long suture mark but Sirilada remains optimistic.

The Hermaphrodite: El’Jai Devoureau

Born physically as a female (with ambiguous genitalia) but yet raised as a male, El'Jai Devoureau was fired from his job as a urine monitor at a urban drug treatment center. His assignment was to watch 'men' urinate into plastic cups. Roughly five years ago, El'Jai started male hormone treatments and in 2009 he had the required sex-reassignment surgery. El'Jai is currently suing his former employer for discrimination.

The creative director for the clothing line Jcrew has landed in hot water. Jenna Lyons and her son are featured in a ad in support of the new line for children. As you can see in the picture above, Jenna has painted her son's toe nails Pink. In the ad below, two children stand together with their ponytails braided into one as one child hugs onto the other. Many are concerned that the ads for Jcrew's children line are pushing the issues associated with gender identity disorders (children born as hermaphrodites) a bit too far:

The Hermaphrodite: Mokhoda

Mokhoda, age 22, a low class Bengali Hindu, was admitted in the Campbell Hospital on 13th November, 1904. In deportment, the patient was shy and modest. She gave me the impression that she has some secret to reveal, but was not at all communicative. With some coaxing, I obtained the following facts from her. She has no friends or relatives and lives by working as a maid-servant in a Bengali household. She was married as a girl, at the age of nine. The husband, however, died in two years. She never lived with her husband. There was never anything like menstruation. She complained of some irritation about the genitals and said, that, with the slightest provocation “that thing” (pointing her finger towards the small penis-like body) troubled her. She wanted something done to relieve her...After a few days stay in the hospital, during which time I managed to get the photographs, I amputated the penis and also extirpated the genital gland from the left labium majus. The latter on microscopical examination proved to be a testis. She left the hospital after a few days, happier than before and absolutely believing herself to be a woman...

Many of you are having a difficult time understanding the difference between intersex, transgendered or the term transsexual when discussing hermaphroditism on this site. While browsing through PubMed Central, a case has been pulled that sheds light into the subject at hand. After reading through this case, one has concluded that a human labeled as transsexual, transgendered or intersex, falls under the term Hermaphrodite or pseudohermaphroditism.

According to a article published in the Washington Post Newspaper, the hermaphrodite Kye Allums has been benched due to a undisclosed issue that surrounds her (or his) health. The hermaphrodite and her mother are not allowed to give interviews to other reporters because "Kye" and George Washington University agreed to share their "exclusive" story on the Oprah Winfrey Show:

"...Delamartinez said her son wants to help other transgender athletes but school officials have refused to allow him to tell his story to reporters. According to Delamartinez, school officials told her and Allums not to speak to any reporters because the school had arranged to give an exclusive to Oprah Winfrey..."

It seems as if the most common way for a hermaphrodite-model to sneak into the United States is through the back-doors left open by fashion designers. Reportedly, a very popular fashion designer picked up an australian male-model with serbia roots in Australia. The 19-year old supermodel's name is Andrej Pejic and he has appeared in fashion magazines and shows dressed as a male and most times as a female.
